This decidedly grown-up version of eggnog is so much better than the store-bought variety, and is guaranteed to bring back childhood memories of sitting by the Christmas tree opening presents with the Charlie Brown Christmas album playing in the background.

Red-nosed Eggnog
Adapted from Martha Stewart
Serves 12
6 eggs, separated
3/4 cups superfine sugar
2 cups milk
3 cups heavy cream
1 1/2 cups bourbon
1/4 cup dark rum
1 cups cognac
Freshly grated nutmeg
In a very large bowl, beat egg yolks until thick and pale yellow. Gradually add sugar to combine. Whisk in milk and two cups cream. Add bourbon, rum, and cognac, stirring constantly.
Just before serving, beat egg whites until stiff. Fold into mixture. Whip remaining 1 cup heavy cream until stiff, and fold in. Sprinkle with nutmeg.

Merry Christmas to you and yours…
And the season’s best
Even I am afraid of all that booze
You know, I wish I’d seen this right around the holidays! I’d so intended on making homemade egg nog, but never got around to it. But you know…as I’m sitting here in the midst of this gray, stormy day–maybe it’s not too late. Thanks for the lovely post.
Its never too late for Bourbon! Cheers.
